Select Countries and US States

When using the Insert STK Objects tool, Select Countries and US States is a method for adding certain objects. The method enables you to add one or more countries or US states as area targets. By default, the list displays both countries and US states.

To refine your search, you can:

  • Limit the list by clearing either Countries, US States, or Other Features under List Selections. The Other Features list contains Area of Responsibility (AOR) shapefiles.
  • Jump to a particular spot in the alphabetized list by typing a full or partial country or US state name while your cursor is over the list.

Loading the primary area or all areas

STK creates area targets from shapefiles, which contain one or more polygons. STK converts each polygon into one area target. If the shapefile for the selected area contains two or more polygons, you can choose whether to add only the largest polygon (Primary Area Only) or all polygons (All Areas) in the shapefile. Alabama is an example of a multi-polygon shapefile and Pennsylvania is an example of a single-polygon shapefile.

Graphics

Select a color from the shortcut menu or select Auto Select Color to allow STK to choose colors sequentially for the selected area targets.

Since certain geometries may cause the generated area target’s computed centroid to fall outside the area target, data files have been added to override the centroid with a fixed (not computed) position. The Insert STK Objects tool will read the appropriate data file and move the centroid to a fixed Lat/Lon/Alt position, ensuring that the centroid falls within the area target and that the area target fills correctly in the 2D and 3D Graphics windows.
