ArcGIS REST Client Plugin

The ArcGIS REST plugin provides an interface for the user to connect to a server using the ArcGIS REST protocol and add data from the server to the 3D window. ArcGIS Basemaps and Map Services are supported.

The functionality of the ArcGIS REST Client plugin is exposed through a toolbar:

If the toolbar is not visible, go to the View menu, then under Toolbars, select ArcGIS REST Client.

Add Basemap

Select the Add Basemap… option to launch the Add Basemap dialog. Click on a basemap thumbnail to view the associated metadata. Double-click on the basemap thumbnail to add the map to the selected 3D Graphics window.

Each added basemap will appear on the Hierarchy tab of the Globe Manager:

Add Data

Select the Add Data… option to launch the Add Data dialog.

Enter the URL of the REST map service in the Map Service URL field, then click OK to add the map to the specified 3D Graphics window. In most cases, the URL for an ArcGIS Map Service will terminate in ‘/MapServer’.

Like the basemaps, the map will appear on the Hierarchy tab of the Globe Manager:

Preferences

The plugin may be configured through the Preferences... on the Edit menu. On the ArcGIS REST Client page, the user can direct the plugin to point to a custom ArcGIS portal and customize the query used to list the available basemaps.

When using the ArcGIS capabilities with the 2D or 3D maps to load map documents, the proxy settings configured in the STK Edit/Preferences/Online page are ignored. The proxy configuration specified in the ArcCatalog options is used.

Data Sources

These data sources are available to U.S. government employees and contractors who have access to a classified government server.
