Reducing the Number of Polygons in a Primitive

To reduce the number of polygons:

  1. Select Reduction... from the Edit menu.
  2. Select the primitive you want to reduce using the CONTROL key and the mouse in the MDE window so that it is also selected in the Primitive list.
  3. Click the tab to display the type of primitive selected in the MDE window (this information is displayed in the bottom portion of the MDE window). Depending on the primitive selected, different parameters that can be reduced appear in the Reduction Parameters field.
  4. Use the slider beside each parameter to change a particular value.
  5. Revolve. Reduces the number of sides used in the revolve primitive and/or the number of vertices that the revolve traverses.

    Sphere. Reduces the number of slices and/or stacks that the sphere possesses.

    Cylinder. Reduces the number of sides that the cylinder possesses.

    Extrusion. Reduces the number of vertices that the extrusion traverses.

    Skin. Reduces the number of frames and/or the number of points per frame that the skin possesses.

    Helix. Reduces the number of coils and/or the number of sides that the helix possesses.

  6. Click Reduce Selected Primitive to apply the changes.
