Important Announcements about this Release
STK 12.8 Announcements
- In order to better support the integration of STK into the entire Digital Engineering workflow, we will be transitioning away from support for the STK Data Federate (SDF) and enhancing support for Ansys Minerva. Ansys Minerva is a comprehensive Simulation Process and Data Management tool that will not only provide more seamless operations across the Ansys product family, but also opens the door to integrating with a broader universe of software tools. This release of STK will be the final version specifically designed to work with the SDF. While future versions of STK may continue to work with the SDF, there are not plans to maintain the SDF going forward and therefore no guarantee of forward compatibility.
- STK now includes MATLAB Connectors v1.0.22 for MATLAB 2023b. For more information on what versions of STK work with what MATLAB version, check out our MATLAB page.
STK 12.7 Announcements
- The use of the Perl scripting language in Plugin Scripts, inline scripts, and Windows Script Components has been deprecated. Support for Perl is planned to be removed in an upcoming release. Python is the recommended replacement language for scripting.
- The STK Parallel Computing API for Python now requires a minimum version of Python 3.8.
- The STK Plugin for Model Center can only be run with an STK using the same or older version of the Ansys License Manager. Therefore:
- STK 12.4 should be run with Model Center 2022 R1 or older
- STK 12.5 should be run with Model Center 2022 R2 or older
- STK 12.6 should be run with Model Center 2023 R1 or older
- The STK Data Disc is no longer part of the STK installation; you can download them individually from the AGI website at support.agi.com/agi-data-disc/default.aspx. Also, as of this release, AGI no longer supports the STK Download Utility, as it is no longer needed.
- STK 12.7 is the last release to support Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2012 R2. This is driven by Microsoft ending support of these products in October 2023.
- STK SEET is now on the STK install disc. If you are interested in installing SEET, there is a checkbox on the front end of the install.
- Parallel Computing Server 2.6 and below do not support Mongo DB 5.0.5.
- STK now includes MATLAB Connectors v1.0.20 for MATLAB 2023a. For more information on what versions of STK work with what MATLAB version, check out our MATLAB page.
STK 12.6 Announcements
- The Astrogator SNOPT (Sparse Nonlinear OPTimizer) search profile was previously not available in STK Engine, but has now been added.
- STK now includes MATLAB Connectors v1.0.19 for MATLAB 2022b. For more information on what versions of STK work with what MATLAB version, check out our MATLAB page.
- This is the last release the Data Download Utility will be supported. The Data Download Utility will be deprecated in 12.7.

- Usage of SNOPT now requires a complimentary license. Please contact AGI Support if you require such a license for use with Astrogator.
-
STK 12.4 now officially supports the use of the Sentinel HL USB dongle for licensing.
MATLAB Connectors
- STK now includes MATLAB Connectors v1.0.17 for MATLAB 2021b. Due to MATLAB backward compatibility changes, 2021b is only supported by STK 12.4. For more information on what versions of STK work with what MATLAB version, check out our MATLAB page.
STK
- This version of STK has been compiled using Visual Studio 2019 v16.9.9.
STK 12.3 Announcements
Licensing
- The number of licenses have been significantly reduced and many modules have been combined to provide greater functionality in a fewer number of products.
- All license management requires elevated administrator privileges in order to execute.
- Traditional nodelocked licenses are no longer available. All licenses are served from a local or networked license server.
- Support for previous hardware dongle models will not be available for this release. If you have questions regarding future dongle support, please contact our customer support team (support@agi.com).
- A new License Management Center provides detailed logging capabilities with each STK installation. You can read more about it on the License Settings page.
-
The Astrogator Optimal Finite Maneuver and SNOPT Optimizer search profile capabilities now both require a complimentary AGI SNOPT license. Please contact AGI Support to obtain such a license if you need these capabilities.
-
The AFSPC SGP4 and SP propagators no longer require an AGI-generated license (UsGov) to work with STK. They still require licensing imposed by AFSPC when using their propagators.
-
The following products are not supported for 12.3: RAE, SOLIS, and Aviator Restricted.
-
A valid stk_engine_runtime license is required to develop, deploy, and run STK/X engine-based applications.
Install

Breaking Changes for Astrogator
To support ongoing product interoperability efforts, Astrogator engine models, maneuver pointing and attitude definitions, and related constructions have been refactored. Associated attitude control and engine model plugin interfaces have been relocated, so user code will require updates to account for these adjustments. Please consult the programming help documentation for more information.
MATLAB
Support for GUIDE, an undocumented JavaFrame property and javacomponent function, as well as the actxcontrol function is being deprecated in MATLAB by Mathworks. If you need to display the STK Engine Globe or Map widgets in MATLAB, host these controls in a separate window parented to the desktop.
