Displaying Number of Gaps in a Graphics Window

Measuring the Number of Gaps

Number of Gaps measures the number of coverage gaps found over the interval of the coverage definition. The dynamic definition of Number of Gaps computes either 1 or 0 depending on whether the grid point is currently in a coverage gap or not. Options for the static definition of Number of Gaps are described in the following table.

Compute options for Number of Gaps

Option Description
Average Per Day The total number of coverage gaps over the entire coverage interval divided by the number of days in the coverage interval
In Span The number of coverage gaps between the Minimum and Maximum values specified over the entire coverage interval
In Span Per Day The number of coverage gaps between the Minimum and Maximum values divided by the number of days in the coverage interval.
Maximum Per Day The maximum number of coverage gaps per calendar day
Minimum Per Day The minimum number of coverage gaps per calendar day
Total The total number of coverage gaps over the entire coverage interval

Calendar days are measured from midnight to midnight UTC.

Displaying Number of Gaps in a Graphics Window

Graphics are used to represent the static and dynamic value of Number of Gaps. Graphics representing the dynamic values are only displayed during animation. If Satisfaction is enabled, the graphics follow the general behavior for satisfaction graphics. If Satisfaction is disabled, the graphics appear as described in the following table:

Static or Animation? Grid points highlighted if they...
Static are in a coverage gap at least once during the coverage interval
Animation are currently in a coverage gap

The Satisfaction Threshold value is the number of gaps between access intervals. The default behavior for this Figure Of Merit corresponds to a Satisfaction setting of Greater Than 0.

Animation graphics for Number of Accesses do not follow the standard pattern when Accumulation graphics are set to Up to Current or Not Up to Current. In these cases, the dynamic definition of the Figure Of Merit reports the static value of the Figure Of Merit where the end of the coverage interval has been reset to the current animation time for use in animation graphics. This change in definition is restricted to the graphics and does not affect data provided in reports. The result of this behavior is that the dynamic and static satisfaction graphics are identical at the end of the coverage interval.
