Create TLE File

You can create a TLE file from the search results using the satellite database.

The Create TLE Tool is available from the Utilities menu.

TLE Source

To select a different TLE source, click Modify... under TLE Source.

Searching the Satellite Database

To find a satellite in the database, use one of the search options. Enter as many search criteria as possible. If you do not know the exact criteria, you can enter a partial name or use the wildcard character *.

Search Criteria Description
Common Name The common name of the satellite.
SSC Number The SSC number of the vehicle.
Advanced Options... Click this button for additional search options.

Click Search to update the list.

Search Results

All satellites in the TLE file that meet the search criteria are listed. The results are sorted by Common Name. To sort the results by a different column, double-click the column heading The direction that the aircraft is pointing..

The TLE Epoch is displayed in UTC and/or YYDDD. If "To be retrieved" appears in the TLE Epoch column, the TLE source is online.

If there are a number of items resulting from the search, you can select one or more items in the list. Use the Shift or Ctrl key to select more than one item. Use Ctrl+A to select all items.

Setting the Propagation Time Period

To use a different time period than the scenario time period, select Time Period...

Creating the TLE File

To generate a TLE file for the selected satellites during the specified time period:

  • Click the Output TLE File browse button to browse to the folder where you want to place the new TLE file.
  • Enter a name for the Output TLE file and click Save.
  • Click Create File.
  • As TLEs are restricted to five digit numbers, any SSC number larger than 99999 are ignored.
