Properties for the 3D Graphics Window - Details

Use to add details to the globe in the 3D Graphics window.

Map Details

Use to add outlines to land borders on the globe. Outlining land borders makes them easier to identify when viewing from greater distances.

Show. Select the map detail items (binary, ASCII, or shapefiles) that you want to display in the 3D Graphics window from the Map Details list. This list includes map details that reside in the following directories:

  • <STK install folder>\STKData\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\binary/lendian
  • <STK install folder>\STKData\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\ascii
  • <STK install folder>\STKData\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps
  • <STK user area>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\binary\lendian
  • <STK user area>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\ascii
  • <STK user area>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps
  • <STK all users area>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\binary\lendian
  • <STK all users area>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\ascii
  • <STK all users area>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps
  • <STK scenario folder>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\binary\lendian
  • <STK scenario folder>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps\ascii
  • <STK scenario folder>\CentralBodies\<central body name>\maps

The name of each item in the list is derived from the name of the string contained in a file called name. This string cannot contain spaces.

To add a shapefile to the Map Details list, create a subdirectory in one of the directories listed above and then place the shapefile along with the name file into the newly-created subdirectory. Esri shapefiles must have a projection file (.prj) that matches the central body definition.

If you want to assign a unique color to more than one shapefile, place each shapefile in its own folder.

Advanced button. Click to access the Advanced Advanced Map Details page where you can modify the outline color.

Resolution. Specifies the resolution level. (The 3D Graphics window does not automatically change resolution on zoom the way the 2D Graphics window does, but it will always display this resolution.)

Line Width. The width of the lines used to outline land borders on the globe.

Lat/Lon Lines

Show. Displays latitude and longitude lines on the globe.

Lat Spacing. Defines the distance between latitude lines.

Lon Spacing. By default, spacing between longitude lines is the same as the spacing between latitude lines. To define the distance between longitude lines, enable Lon Spacing and enter a new value.

Color. The color of the latitude and longitude lines.

Width. The width of the latitude and longitude lines, where 1 is the thinnest line, and 5 is the thickest.

Label Declutter

Use to separate the labels on objects that are in close proximity for better identification in small areas.

Enable. Select to reposition the labels so they do not obstruct one another.

Show Lines. Displays lines connecting decluttered labels to their original position.

Mode. Specifies one of the following modes:

    Simple. Standard declutter mode.

Minimize Distance. Minimizes the length of the connecting lines.

Avoid Terrain Only. Shifts labels away from the terrain but does not shift the labels away from each other.

Avoid Terrain. Declutters labels away from the central body and towards the viewer, keeping the labels from being obscured by the terrain. Specify one of the following:

  • Auto. Terrain Avoidance is performed only when there is depth buffer terrain being shown.
  • Always Terrain avoidance is always performed.
  • Never. Never performs terrain avoidance.

Miscellaneous

Defines the display of the Equator and/or Prime Meridian on the globe.

Show Equator. Displays the Equator on the globe.

Show Prime Meridian. Displays the Prime Meridian on the globe.

Color. The line color used to represent the Equator and/or Prime Meridian.

Width. The width of the line used to represent the Equator and/or Prime Meridian, where 1 is the thinnest line, and 5 is the thickest.

Window Background

Use to select the background color of the 3D Graphics window. Changing the window background can be useful for printing purposes.

2D Map Zoom

Show Location of 2D Maps . Displays an outline of the zoomed-in area being displayed in each 2D Graphics window on the globe in the 3D Graphics window.

Shapefiles

Lists the urban geometry data files available to display in the 3D Graphics window. To add a file to the list of available files, click Add... and browse to the file. To display the file in the 3D Graphics window, select Show. By default, Show is enabled for the shapefile selected on the Scenario's RF Environment page. To modify the graphics attributes for the file, click More....

The following shapefile fields are available only with the STK Urban Propagation Extension for Communications.

Color. Specifies the color of the buildings.

Point Size. Specifies the point size for point shapefiles. (Not applicable to urban geometry data files.)

Line Width. Specifies the line width for line shapefiles. (Not applicable to urban geometry data files.)

Transluceny. Makes the buildings translucent at the percentage specified. Translucency can be adjusted from 0 to 100 percent, where 100 percent is completely invisible.

To Meters. Multiply factor for changing the building height to meters.

Height Reference. Allows you to specify a reference surface for height values.

Top Height. The source for determining the top of the extruded features.

  • None - No height information is available. Feature is assumed to be on the Height Reference.
  • Geometry - The geometry contains the height (as Z value).
  • Field - Select a Field Name from the drop-down menu to be used for the height.
  • Value - The height is provided explicitly in Field Height.

Base Height. The source for determining the base of the extruded features:

  • None - No height information is available. Feature is assumed to be on the Height Reference.
  • Geometry - The geometry contains the height (as Z value).
  • Field - Select a Field Name from the drop-down menu to be used for the height.
  • Value - The height is provided explicitly in Field Height.

Compute height? Used to determine the height when both Top Height and Base Height are specified using the Field setting.
