Properties for the 3D Graphics Window - Object Lines

Use this property page to create lines that connect objects in the 3D Graphics window. The lines created are strictly graphical representations and have no effect on computations in STK. This feature is useful for formation visualization or other instances when you need only a graphical display of the relationship between objects in a scenario as animation progresses.

To have STK display a line between two objects, select a From object and a To object and click the right arrow. The connecting line for the object pair is added to the table.

From has a list of objects where the graphical line can start.

To has a list of objects where the graphical line can end given the selected From object.

If the From object and To object (or both) is an MTO or satellite collection object, you must also select the track number (MTO) or entry (satellite collection) from the Select Line Data for an MTO or Satellite Collection Object dialog box.

Common attributes

Each connecting line has the following attributes:

Attribute Description
From/To These two columns display the From object and the To object you chose.
Show Select this check box to display the connecting line in the 3D Graphics window.
Color. Shows the color of the connecting line. To change the line color, double-click the color and click the down arrow to select another color.

Display options

You can also set the following display options for the selected connecting line:

Option Description
Width Use the down arrow to choose the width of the object line.
Display Times Click this button to open the Display Times window. Use this to control the time intervals during which STK displays the object line in the 3D Graphics window.
Draw Line as a Great Arc

If you select this check box, STK will draw the object line as a great arc, preventing it from intersecting the central body. This will create a line that stays on the surface of the central body rather than going through it in a straight line.

The great arc line will appear on the surface if the two objects are located on the surface; it will not appear on the surface if one of the objects is located off the ground.

Surface Line

If the following are true:

  • You selected "On" or "When Terrain Server is on" for Surface Lines - On Terrain on the 3D Graphics > Global Attributes page for Scenario properties .
  • You selected the "Draw Line as a Great Arc" check box on this page.

then selecting the Surface Line check box will cause STK to draw the object line on terrain.

If one or both of the objects are above the ground, the object line will not go over any terrain that may be in the way. For example, if a ground vehicle and an airplane have a hill in the way, the object line will cut through the hill even though you selected all three check boxes.
