Insert Aircraft Using the Standard Object Database

Use the Standard Object Database tool to search for aircraft in the online Aircraft database. The Aircraft database is not locally installed with STK.

The Standard Object Database tool is available from the Insert menu.

Searching the Aircraft Database

Enter as many search criteria as possible. If you do not know the exact criteria, you can enter a partial name or use the wildcard character *.

Search Criteria Description
Name Aircraft name.
Keywords Searches for a specific word or words contained in the Keywords meta data in the Standard Object database.
Description Searches for a specific word or words contained in the Description meta data in the Standard Object database. For example, entering "Single Seat" returns all aircraft that have Single Seat in the description of the aircraft.
Manufacturer The company that manufactured the aircraft.
Maximum True Airspeed Min/Max Limits the search to the specified Min value, Max value, or range of values (both Min and Max are specified). For example, entering 159 for the maximum value returns all aircraft that specify a true airspeed of 159 nm/hr or less.
Operational Range Min/Max Limits the search to the specified Min value, Max value, or range of values (both Min and Max are specified). For example, entering 1150 for the minimum value returns all aircraft that specify an operational range of 1150 nm or longer. Entering 1150 for the minimum value and 1200 for the maximum returns all aircraft that have an operational range between 1150 nm and 1200 nm.
Endurance Min/Max Limits the search to the specified Min value, Max value, or range of values (both Min and Max are specified). For example, entering 10 for the minimum value returns all aircraft that can stay in the air for 10 or more hours.
Ceiling Attitude Min/Max Limits the search to the specified Min value, Max value, or range of values both Min and Max are specified). For example, entering 19500 for the maximum value returns all aircraft that can reach an altitude of 19500 ft or less.
Designation The type of aircraft. Reconnaissance, Drone, and Patrol are examples of types of aircraft.

Search Results

All aircraft that meet the search criteria are listed, along with their manufacturer, maximum True Airspeed, Operational Range, Endurance, Ceiling Altitude, and Designation.

If there are a number of items resulting from the search, you can select one or more items in the list to be inserted into your scenario. Use the Shift or Ctrl key to select more than one item. Use Ctrl+A to select all items.

Modifying the Color and Model for the Selected Aircraft

To specify a label color for the selected aircraft, select the color choice or select Auto Select Color to allow STK to choose colors automatically for the selected aircraft.

Defining a Constellation of Aircraft

You can group aircraft into a single unit called a constellation object. To create a constellation of aircraft:

  1. Select one or more aircraft to be added to the constellation.
  2. To specify a specific label color for the aircraft in the constellation, select the color choice or select Auto Select Color to allow STK to choose colors sequentially for the selected aircraft.
  3. Select Create Constellation from Selected and enter a name for the aircraft.
  4. Click Insert to create the constellation. The constellation object is added to the object browser.
