Defining a Custom Boundary

To select the area targets, line targets, region list files (*.rl), and shapefiles (*.shp) that define a custom boundary as a coverage area:

  1. Select an area target or line target by highlighting it in the Boundary Objects list and using the right arrow or double-clicking the name to add it to the Selected Objects list. More than one area target or line target can comprise a single coverage area.

To use an area target or line target when defining the coverage area, it must already be a part of the current scenario.

Area targets and line targets used to define custom boundaries should have a longitude span no greater than 180 degrees. This limitation includes the case of targets that encompass a polar region.

  2. Select one or several region lists (*.rl) or shapefiles (*.shp) as part of the coverage area by clicking Load Region File.... Select the files of interest and click Open. The selected files are added to the Selected Objects list.

Shapefiles are created in ArcView(r) GIS software but can be imported into Coverage and STK using the GIS tool to more easily define a precise geographical area on the Earth.

  3. Once you have selected all of the area targets, line targets, region lists and/or shapefiles that comprise the coverage area, click OK to return to the Grid page.

To access the Select Boundaries window, select Custom Boundary in the Type field and click Select Boundaries... on the Coverage Definition Basic Grid properties page.
