Globe Manager Overview

Use the Globe Manager to populate the central body of your 3D Graphics window with the following imagery, terrain, data sets, and tilesets:

  • Central body textures (.jp2)
  • Image inlays (.pdttx, .jp2)
  • Terrain inlays (.pdtt)
  • Specular textures (.jp2)
  • Night light textures (.jp2)
  • 3D tilesets (.b3dm)
  • GIS annotations or images (.kml/.kmz)
  • ROAM imagery (.txm/.txb)

You can use Globe Manager to access imagery and terrain data items from local drives and external sources, such as the STK Data Federate and Microsoft Bing© Maps. You can organize imagery and terrain items into sets and turn on and off the display of individual imagery and terrain items or sets of items.

The Globe Manager gives you the ability to manage how and when these items are displayed.

These files provide visualization only and have no analytical properties.

Opening Globe Manager

The Globe Manager Toolbar Add Data Panel is normally displayed by default in the 3D Graphics window. If the Globe Manager Toolbar is not visible, select Toolbars > GlobeManager from the View menu to display it.

Click Add Data Panel to open the Globe Manager window.

The Globe Manager icon and the Globe Manager selection on the View menu will be unavailable if a 3D Graphics window is not open or active. You can open a 3D Graphics window by selecting New 3D Graphics window from the View menu. You can activate a 3D Graphics window by clicking it or its tab.

Globe Manager comprises three tabs in which you manage the content of your globes.

  • Hierarchy lists and controls the display of graphical content.
  • Render Order controls how content is layered.
  • KML lists and controls display of KML content.

Globe Manager content

Globe Manager displays a list of the contents of the selected 3D Graphics window, enabling you to manage the content of two or more 3D windows from one place.

Each 3D window has its own content that you can edit independently.

You can save the globe content to a GLB file, which you can share with other users, who can import them using the Globe Manager.
