Insert an Object from the Standard Object Database

You can insert aircraft, cities, facilities, and spacecraft objects from the online and locally installed Standard Object Databases using the From Standard Object Database method in the Insert STK Objects Tool or the Insert menu.

Connecting to the Standard Object Database

STK is configured to connect to the online AGI Standard Object Database by default. You can define new connections and manage them on the Standard Object Data page of the Preferences window.

You can choose either the Online database, the Local database, or both when searching a Standard Object Database.

Searching for a File

To search for a file in the Standard Object Database, enter search criteria in the list of parameters that is displayed on the left side of the window and then click Search.

Search Conditions

The search conditions available for each parameter are displayed in the list - including check box selections, drop-down menus, and value ranges. The parameters that are available are dependent on the type of object being searched.

Enter as many search criteria as possible. If you do not know the exact criteria, you can enter a partial name or use the wildcard character *.

Results

The Results list displays information about each of the objects in the database that matches your search criteria. The criteria are displayed above the list. You can clear a criterion from a search by clicking the red X displayed after it. Adding more criteria after the initial search will further refine your search by only comparing the new criteria against the results of the previous search.

Select the objects that you want to add to your scenario by clicking on them in the Results list. You can use the Ctrl and Shift keys to select multiple objects at once. Click Insert to download the object data and create the objects in your scenario. Click Close to close the window when you are finished.

Modifying the Color and Model for the Selected Objects

To specify a label color for the selected objects, select the color choice or select Auto Select Color to allow STK to choose colors automatically for the selected objects.

To change the model for the selected objects, click the Model browse button and browse to the desired model file.

Defining a Constellation of Objects

You can group objects into a single unit called a constellation object. To create a constellation:

  1. Select one or more objects to be added to the constellation.
  2. Select Create Constellation from Selected and enter a name for the constellation.
  3. To specify a specific label color for the objects in the constellation, select the color choice or select Auto Select Color to allow STK to choose colors sequentially for the selected objects.
  4. Click Insert to create the constellation. The constellation object is added to the object browser.
