Insert a City Using the Standard Object Database

Use the Standard Object Database tool to select and insert cities from the locally installed City database.. The city database contains thousands of cities around the world. Individual city information includes the exact location of the city, the type of city and more. The City database is installed with STK; it is not available online.

The Standard Object Database tool is available from the Insert menu.

Information for the inserted object appears on the Description page of its Basic properties.

Searching the City Database

Enter as many search criteria as possible. If you do not know the exact criteria, you can enter a partial name or use the wildcard character *. For example, MOS results in Los Alamos, Okemos, and Moscow. A partial name assumes a wildcard on both ends (*MOS*); MOS* results in Moscow, and *MOS results in Los Alamos and Okemos.

Search Criteria Description
Name The name of the city for which you wish to search. In the database, city names are, to the extent permitted by the standard ASCII character set, spelled in the languages of the countries in which they are located. Thus Rome is Roma, Moscow is Moskva, Munich is Munchen (not München or Muenchen), and so on.
Province The name of the Canadian province or US state in which the city is located.
Country The country in which the city is located.
Database Displays the name of the default database. Use the button to browse to a different database.
Type The type of city. Choose among Populated Place, Administration Center, and National Capital.
Latitude Min/Max Limits the search to the specified Min value, Max value, or range of values (both Min and Max are specified).
Longitude Min/Max Limits the search to the specified Min value, Max value, or range of values (both Min and Max are specified).
Search Tip

Select Latitude and Longitude, go the 2D Graphics window and draw a boundary box by dragging the mouse over the desired area. The maximum and minimum latitude and longitude coordinates automatically display.

Search Results

All cities that meet the search criteria are listed. The results are sorted by city name. To sort the results by a different column, double-click the column heading The direction that the aircraft is pointing..

If there are a number of items resulting from the search, you can select one or more items in the list to be inserted into your scenario. Use the Shift or Ctrl key to select more than one item. Use Ctrl+A to select all items.
