3D Graphics Properties for Satellites, Missiles, and Launch Vehicles - Orbit and Trajectory Systems

Use to show the vehicle’s orbit in a variety of coordinate systems.

System. List of orbit or trajectory systems that can be displayed in the 3D Graphics window. By default, the following systems are listed:

  • Fixed by Window. Fixed with respect to the central body in the 3D Graphics window.
  • Inertial by Window. Inertial reference frame of the chosen window's central body. The inertial reference frame may be different for each 3D view, depending on the central body being displayed in each 3D Graphics window.

To add an orbit system to the list of available orbits to display, select one of the following:

The orbit system is added with the default color of the vehicle, Show enabled, and 3D windows set to All.

If you choose Inertial by Window or Fixed by Window, the reference frame is the central body in each window. For instance, if you have two 3D Graphic windows--Window #1 having the Earth as its central body and Window #2 having the Moon-- the Inertial by Window reference frame causes Window #1 to use an Earth-Centered Inertial (ECI) frame and Window #2 to use a Moon-centered inertial frame. If, instead, you choose the Earth Centered Inertial frame, both windows will use an ECI reference frame, regardless of the central body.

Persist. Displays the missile trajectory even when the animation time is outside the interval for which ephemeris exists.

Custom Color. To specify a color of the orbit or trajectory system:

  1. Select Custom Color.
  2. Click the Color field to display the drop-down arrow.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow and select a color.

If you do not select a color, the color selected on the Basic 2D Graphics Attributes page for the vehicle is used.

3D Windows. Select the 3D Graphics window in which the selected reference frame is displayed. The default displays the selected reference frame in all 3D Graphics windows.

To display the same reference frame in more than one window but not all windows, re-select the frame for each additional window and then add it to the Selected Frames table.
