Scatter Matrix

The Scatter Matrix displays a grid of graphs that compare every design variable and response against every other design variable and response in the trade study. Using these graphs, it's possible to quickly gain understanding as to the relationship between various variables in the trade study.

A scatter matrix is a grid of 2D scatter plots, where all variables under investigation are plotted against each other. Given N variables, the scatter plot matrix will consist of N columns and N rows. Each grid formed by the intersection of row i and column j, represents one scatter plot with variable i on the vertical axis and variable j on the horizontal axis. Scatter matrices are an effective way to visualize trends and all possible two way interactions of the data.

To configure a plot, select from the tabs in the left-hand menu:

  • Dimensions - set which variable is displayed on which axis
  • Constraints - specify upper and lower limits on design variables
  • Objectives - set weighted values for design variables
  • Series - set options for the plot display
  • Layout - control global layout options for the overall plot area
  • Axes - set options for the axes
  • Legend - set the display and appearance of the plot legend

You can also use the View Controls toolbar, in the upper right of the plot area, to specify some settings.
