3D Graphics Properties for STK Objects - Model

Use to specify a model to represent a given vehicle, facility, place or target in the 3D Graphics window, and then scale the model and adjust the position of any model articulations. You can also set model properties globally using the Model Attributes tool.

Model

Use to select and size the model representing the selected object in the 3D Graphics window.

Show. Identifies one model or several models to use at different times during the animation and enables you to modify the following properties. If Show is not selected, the object model is not graphically displayed in the 3D Graphics window. By default Show is not selected for the Place model.

Model File. Select this option to display the same model at all times during animation. Use the button to browse for a model file.

Supported model file types are:

Model List. Select to display several models at different times during the animation. Use the Edit List... button to access the Model List window where you can specify the models to use and the times of display.

Use Catalog Model File. Select this option to allow the model file to be specified by the catalog item defining an Aviator aircraft. Click the Edit List... button to access the Model List window where you can specify the models to use and the times of display.

Log Scale. Specifies the absolute scaling value for the object. Use the slider to modify the value. The model scale is an exponential scale.

glTF Reflection Settings. In STK, there are two mechanisms for reflection environments, static High Dynamic Range (HDR) image or a procedurally generated environment. If no HDR based reflection environments are used, STK will default to the procedurally generated environment. For more information about this feature, refer to the Defining a Reflection Environment for glTF Models section of the glTF Models page.

Articulations. Click View... to view, establish, or modify the articulated (movable) parts of the model, such as steerable solar panels or the doors on the Space Shuttle. This information is saved to an articulation file with the same name as the object, by default. Select Use Articulation File if you want to display your model with articulations from a specific file and then click the button to browse to the file that you want to use. Click Reload to reload the original articulation file for the model.

Marker

Use to define the display of the marker or image used to represent a vehicle at a specified detail threshold. Use a marker to more clearly display the position of a vehicle at greater distances.

Orbit/Trajectory Marker. If selected, you can define the display of the marker to represent the selected vehicle while traveling along its actual orbit or trajectory--separate from that of its ground track. The orbit (for satellites) or trajectory (for missiles and launch vehicles) is the actual path that a vehicle follows.

Ground Marker. If selected, you can define the display of the marker to represent the vehicle's position along its ground track-separate from that of its orbit, or trajectory (depending on the type of vehicle). (The ground track of a vehicle is the portion of the central body's surface that it covers while traveling along its track and is not its actual orbit (for satellites) or trajectory (for missiles and launch vehicles).

Show. Displays a marker at the object position for the object once a specified detail threshold has been crossed. If not selected, the object is not graphically displayed in the 3D Graphics window.

Marker. Specifies a 2D marker type to represent the object at the threshold specified in the Marker, Label field.

Image File. Displays a 2D image to represent the object at the threshold specified in the Marker, Label field. Use the button to choose an image file.

Transparent. Uses the color of the lower left pixel of the image as the transparent color if an image file is being used. All pixels in the image of that color are not drawn.

Pixel Size. Specifies the pixel size of the marker. Markers do not resize as the window size is changed.

Rotate. The marker rotates counterclockwise according to the input angle specified.

Rotate to Follow Velocity Vector. The marker rotates to maintain a facing in the direction of the entity's velocity, after performing the initial rotation to the input angle specified for the Rotate parameter.

X Origin. The horizontal point of origin for the marker.

Y Origin. The vertical point of origin for the marker.

Since ground vehicles and ships travel along the surface of the central body, they don't have separate route and ground tracks.

Point

At certain viewing distances, a point can be shown to represent an object. This viewing distance for the point is set under Detail Thresholds. To display the point, select Show and set its size in pixels. To hide the point, clear Show.

Detail Thresholds

Use to set detail thresholds as an aid for improving performance when viewing in 3D. Using these thresholds, the viewer sees varying degrees of detail on the models and graphics in the 3D Graphics window, depending on the distance of the object from the viewer. The threshold distance indicates when to switch between levels. Use the sliders or text boxes to define the upper limit thresholds (or Maximum Viewing Distance) for each level. When the Show Model property is not selected for an object the object's marker will display at all levels when Use Detail Thresholds is selected.

Use. Enables you to set detail threshold values. If not selected, all models are displayed using the highest level of detail model available (All) at all distances from the viewer. Detail threshold should be disabled when no such level exists in the model or if an object is always to be displayed regardless of the viewer's distance from it.

Simple Model, Label. The maximum viewing distance at which the coarsest detail in the model, label and vectors, attitude sphere, and geostationary box is displayed.

Marker, Label. The maximum viewing distance at which a label and marker representing the object is visible.

Marker. The maximum viewing distance at which a marker representing the object is visible.

For example, if you set

    All at 1.4 Km
Simple Model, Label at 2.0 Km
    Marker, Label at 2.8 Km
    Marker at 3.4 Km

the object is displayed at the highest level until it is seen at a distance greater than 1.4 Km. Once past 1.4 Km, the object displays a simple model, label and possibly vectors; once past 2.0 Km, the object displays a marker and label; past 2.8 Km, the object displays only a marker; and past 3.4, the object does not display at all.

Point. The maximum viewing distance at which a point representing the object is visible.

All. The maximum viewing distance at which the finest detail in the model, label and vectors, attitude sphere, and geostationary box (if selected at individual object level) is displayed.
