The Mode tab is used to set basic plot options.

Some controls only appear for certain plots or with certain options selected.

Control Name Use/Options
Visibility Sets the visibility of the series.
  • Show -- show the selected series data
  • Hide -- hide the selected series data
  • Legend Only -- hide the series data and only show it in the legend*. (Note: both Legend (tab) > Visible? and Series > Legend must be set to "Show".) The individual trace can also be clicked in the legend to toggle its visibility.

The Legend (tab) > Visible? field is the master control for this behavior. If that field is set to "Hide", then the fields on the Series tab will not affect anything.
Legend Sets whether the series is visible in the legend.
  • Show -- show the series in the legend
  • Hide -- hide the series in the legend

Hover info Sets if the hover information is shown.

This popup is different from the Design Point tooltip, which also pops up when hovering over a point.

  • Show -- (default) Show the data coordinates when the mouse is hovered over the plot
  • Hide -- hide the data coordinates when the mouse is hovered over the plot
Axes Sets which axes are shown.
  • X, X2, ..., XN
  • Y,Y2, ..., YN
  • New Axis/Subplot --
Lines/Markers Sets the lines and markers for the series. (Options for the lines and markers can be set on the Style tab.)

  • None -- uses no line or dot for the data points. (Can be used with the Fill To field to see data.)
  • Line -- uses lines to connect the data points.
  • Dot -- uses dots to indicate the data points.
  • Line with Dot -- uses dots with connecting lines for the data points.
Fill To Sets the fill option of the plot. (Note on a Scatter Matrix, this field only affects a single plot, based on the axes selected in the Axes field.)
  • None
  • Y=0 -- fills the area from the plot to y = 0
  • X=0 -- fills the area from the plot to x = 0
  • Next Y -- with two or more series on the same plot, this option fills the area from a y-axis point in the currently selected series to a y-axis point in the previously added series. (If there is no previous series, this option behaves like Y=0.)
  • Next X -- with two or more series on the same plot, this option fills the area from a y-axis point in the currently selected series to a y-axis point in the previously added series. (If there is no previous series, this option behaves like X=0.)
Fill Color Sets the color of the fill. (See "Fill to".)
Mode Sets how multiple bar chart series are displayed.
  • Stack -- stacks series on top of each other
  • Group -- groups series based on common X values
  • Overlay -- overlays series in front of each other
Group Normalization Sets the normalization.
  • None
  • Fraction -- 0 to 1
  • % -- 0 to 100
Orientation Sets the orientation of the plot.
  • Vert. = Vertical orientation
  • Horz. = Horizontal orientation
  • Flip bars & axis config -- flips between Vertical and Horizontal orientations
Swap Swaps the axes.
  • X & Y data -- swap the X and Y axes
  • Data & axis config -- swap the X and Y axes
X span -- Parallel Coordinates Sets the horizontal domain of the scene.
Y span -- Parallel Coordinates Sets the vertical domain of the scene.
X projection Displays a projection on the X plane of all the points.
  • Show -- click to show. Click again to hide.
Y projection Displays a projection on the Y plane of all the points.
  • Show -- click to show. Click again to hide.
Z projection Displays a projection on the X plane of all the points.
  • Show -- click to show. Click again to hide.
opacity Sets the opacity of the projection points.
scale Sets the scale of the projection points.
Surface Determines if a surface is shown on a 3D plot.
  • None -- no surface
  • X -- adds a surface using the X variables
  • Y -- adds a surface using the Y variables
  • Z -- adds a surface using the Z variables
Surface Color Sets the color of the displayed surface.
