Adding and Defining STK Objects

You can add STK objects to a scenario using any of the following methods:

  • Insert STK Objects tool. Use this tool to access all the methods available for inserting objects.
  • The Insert STK Objects tool is automatically displayed when you create a new scenario using the New Scenario Wizard. If it does not automatically display, select Edit Preferences... and enable the display setting.

You can also access this tool by clicking or selecting New... from the Insert menu.

  • Standard Object databases. Access the Satellite, Facility, City, Aircraft, Area Target, Star, or GPS Almanac database by selecting From Standard Object Database from the Insert menu.
  • Search toolbar. Enter search terms and search connected resources for satellites, facilities, and places.
  • Insert Default Object. Click to create a default object or select Default Object... from the Insert menu.

All methods for adding an object, including the Insert Place by Address tool, are available from the Insert menu.

Descriptions of STK objects are provided below.

Icon Object Description
AdvCAT Provides a convenient way for you to carry out close approach analyses for multiple satellites and two-line element (TLE) sets.
Aircraft Models the properties and behavior of a vehicle that travels in a great arc route, generally above the surface of the earth.
Antenna Models the properties and behavior of an antenna.
AreaTarget Models a region on the surface of the central body.
AttitudeCoverage Combines the features of STK Attitude and STK Coverage capabilities to enable you to analyze coverage in various directions over time, using several attitude-dependent figures of merit.
AttitudeFigureofMerit Specifies the method by which the quality of coverage is measured.
Chain Models a list of objects (either individual or grouped into constellations) in order of access.
CommSystem Models dynamically configured communications links between constellations of transmitters and receivers.
Constellation Models a set of related objects.
CoverageDefinition Analyzes numerous coverage areas simultaneously.
Facility Models a ground station or other facility on the surface of the central body.
Figure of Merit Specifies the method by which the quality of coverage is measured.
GroundVehicle Models the properties and behavior of a vehicle that travels in a great arc route on surface of the earth. Identical to the Ship object.
LaunchVehicle Models the properties and behavior of a vehicle that follows an ascent trajectory from a launch point to an orbit insertion point.
Line Target Models a linear region of interest on the surface of the central body.
MTO Models multiple tracks of vehicles sharing the same properties and behavior that travel in a great arc route.
Missile Models the properties and behavior of a vehicle following an elliptical path that begins and ends at the surface of the central body.
MissileSystem A missile system is a container for organizing the elements of a complex missile that is composed of multiple stages and/or reentry vehicles.  This object is primarily used through Connect by the Missile Tool Kit (MTK) to minimize the clutter that would otherwise be caused in the Object Browser.  There are no analyses that can be performed on missile systems.
Place Models a place on the surface of the central body.
Planet Models orbital and other properties of a planet, a moon, an asteroid, or the sun.
Radar Models the characteristics of a radar system and its environment.
Receiver Models the characteristics of a receiver, the antenna it uses, and the environment in which it operates.
Satellite Models the properties and behavior of a vehicle in orbit around a central body.
Satellite Collection Models a group of satellites within a single object; the individual satellites do not appear in the Object Browser.
Sensor Models the field of view and other properties of a sensing device attached to another STK object.
Ship Models the properties and behavior of a ship.
Star Models position, proper motion, annual parallax, visual magnitude, and other properties of a star.
Target Models a point of interest on the surface of the central body. Except for some properties related to the STK's Conjunction Analysis and STK's Communications capabilities, identical in properties and behavior to the Facility object.
Transmitter Models the characteristics of the transmitter, the antenna it uses, and the environment in which it operates.
Volumetric The Volumetric object combines spatial calculations and volume grids that visually depict volumes representing various values interpolated across grid points.
