Aileron Roll

The Aileron Roll strategy is a 3D strategy, operating in the wind frame, in which the aircraft performs a simple roll around the aircraft's velocity vector.

Flight Path

Select Fly straight line flight path to force the aircraft to maintain its flight path at the start of the roll, or Fly zero G flight path to allow the aircraft to adopt a ballistic flight path for the roll.

Roll

You can define the direction and extent of the roll by degrees or with respect to the aircraft's position at the end of the roll. The Roll Rate can be derived from the current Acceleration performance model, or you can override the model and enter a manual value.

Airspeed

Select a method to define the aircraft's airspeed for the maneuver from the drop-down menu and define any related properties for it.

The Min Speed Limits and Max Speed Limits properties control the behavior of STK's Aviator capability if the aircraft violates the minimum or maximum airspeed during the maneuver; select Constrain if Violated to force the aircraft to obey the limit and continue the maneuver (possibly violating physical laws), Stop if Violated to stop the maneuver at the minimum or maximum airspeed, Error if Violated to make the procedure invalid, or Ignore Limits to ignore the speed limits.

Continue After Roll Complete

Selecting the Continue After Roll Complete check box facilitates rolling to arbitrary angles and then holding those roll angles for a specific duration. This is useful for modeling knife-edge flight paths.
